Tinkering With Ideas #094: Summer games

Hello, fellow tinkerer πŸ‘‹

Happy Wednesday. If you're intrigued by Claude CoWork but not quite sure how to get started, I'm hosting a live session on Thursday, July 23rd at 10:00 am CT (GMT-5).

I'll walk through how to set up CoWork projects, scheduled tasks, and how I use CoWork in my business. Even if you can't make it, signing up will give you access to the replay.

1) Reflection:

When I was a kid, my family had an annual croquet tournament on the 4th of July. I've kept the tradition alive in my backyard, inviting a few friends over every year. No one is actually good at croquet, which makes it all the more fun.

Last year, we skipped the event because it was only a few weeks before my brain surgery. I was beyond stressed, and having people over seemed far beyond what I could handle.

This year, I was delighted to return to the tradition, although we weren't able to play croquet due to a downpour. Still, it was nice to do the things I'm used to doing, especially after so many months of limitations post-surgery.

2) Product

Our croquet day quickly turned into an indoor game day when I looked at the forecast. With a bunch of adults and teens to entertain, we played two games.

WikiRace: If you're old enough to remember the game "Six Degrees to Kevin Bacon" β€” it's like that, but with Wikipedia. The group selects a starting Wikipedia page and an ending page, and you have to get from one page to the other without the use of search. You can only use inline links. The person who connects the two pages first wins.

Fibbage: This is a lying game. You're given a real-life strange fact and have to come up with a lie that you hope other people will guess. You get points if people guess your lie. It's hilarious.

*Both games require a phone or other device to play.

3) Tip

Along with annual croquet comes cold veggie pizza. A relative used to bring it to every croquet tournament when I was growing up. It wouldn't be the 4th of July without cold veggie pizza.

The crust is a cooked crescent roll, the "sauce" is cream cheese, mayo, and dill weed, and the veggies are "whatever makes you happy." You can check out the recipe here.

Hello, fellow tinkerer πŸ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. Ahead of the 4th of July holiday in the U.S., my kids have no summer camp this week. We are headed to the PokΓ©mon Fossil exhibit at the Field Museum in Chicago. I've been listening to PokΓ©mon conversations since my kids were little, and it goes in one ear and out the other. But my kids are excited. 1) Reflection: When I was younger, I had to travel a lot for work. I was implementing enterprise software at banks and credit unions. I'd go on-site to the...

Register 1) Reflection: I'm writing this from a hotel in San Francisco, my second trip this month (the first being New York two weeks ago). My spouse is here for a conference, and I've been enjoying kid-free days and eating my way...

Hello, fellow tinkerer πŸ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. I got a Stream Deck as a gift and have had all kinds of fun configuring it this week. Mostly just opening different apps and web pages when I click the buttons. But I feel like the possibilities are endless, and I'm not thinking creatively enough with this little device. If you have any experience with Stream Decks and have something interesting configured, can you reply back and let me know what you've got going on? 1) Reflection: I'm coming up on...
