Tinkering With Ideas #077: Protect yourself

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹

Happy Wednesday. I'm co-hosting a panel next week: How to Take Long-Term Leave as a Freelancer.

What happens if you work for yourself and need to take extended time off? Medical leave, maternity leave, sabbatical?

I ended up taking about two months off after brain surgery this year. This panel includes me and three other people who've actually taken long-term leave. This free workshop includes conversations, breakout sessions, and practical tips.

Join us on November 18th at 9:00 AM MST. Sign up here.

1) Reflection:

Did you hear about the heist at the Louvre? I laughed a bit when I heard that the password to the Louvre's security system was "Louvre."

But seriously: your security matters. Hackers are getting smarter, phishing schemes are getting better, and deepfakes will become more common. I wrote a post a few years ago about "being your own tech support," and it feels timely to re-share.

2) Tip

Don't be the Louvre. Use a stong passwords and a secure password manager. I use a password manager for my business and personal accounts. I've also securely shared passwords with my virtual assistant and family members.

A few options are LastPass or 1Password [affiliate link*]

3) Product

A few months ago, I signed up for DeleteMe, a service that works to remove your personal information from the internet. If you have any type of public presence, you risk that some angry person might post your home address, phone number, or other sensitive data. So far, DeleteMe has removed my personal information from more than 30 data sites, with more removals in progress.

You can use my link to sign up for DeleteMe and get 20% off.

Hello, fellow tinkerer ๐Ÿ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. I have excellent news: I can see again. ๐ŸŽ‰ Since my brain surgery last July, I've had double vision. I could manage by keeping one eye covered all the time, but it wasn't great. I saw a neuro ophthalmologist in January, and she prescribed glasses with a prism lens. The prism completely corrects my double vision. I can see clearly for the first time in six months! Resource Alert: I've updated my freelance Pricing Guide for 2026, now with a worksheet to...
