Tinkering With Ideas #085: Which AI model is the best?

Hello, fellow tinkerer πŸ‘‹

Happy Wednesday. I'm running a free live session TOMORROW: AI for Solopreneurs. If you're curious about AI but don't know where to start, or what tools to try, this is for you.

If you can't make the live session, sign up anyway, and you'll be sent the link to the replay afterward.

1) Reflection

In December, I made a big change from relying on OpenAI (ChatGPT) to Anthropic (Claude) for AI in my business. It was a whole project to make the shift, since AI is embedded in a lot of the stuff I do, including my Zapier workflows. But it was important enough to me to invest the time.

What I'll say, having gone through that process, is that it's really important to make your AI "portable" as much as possible. That the underlying model doesn't matter, and you can easily move instructions, projects, etc. between models. I wrote more about making the switch here.

2) Tip

Since Claude has more limitations on usage, I've found myself bouncing back and forth between Claude and Gemini. Gemini makes sense for questions like, "My daughter is getting braces, what can I expect?" (stuff that would be a Google question, but faster than reading through individual Google search results). Claude is better β€” for me β€” for work-related stuff.

All that to say: it's ok to bounce between models and use the one that makes the most sense for whatever you're asking it to do.

3) Product

One of the things I tried with Claude was Claude Code. I'm a former product manager, but not a software developer. However, using Claude Code, I was able to describe a new website, and Claude spit out the HTML. I dropped the email in Carrd* [affiliate link] and boom, done. It was shockingly easy.

Hello, fellow tinkerer πŸ‘‹ Happy Wednesday. Ahead of the 4th of July holiday in the U.S., my kids have no summer camp this week. We are headed to the PokΓ©mon Fossil exhibit at the Field Museum in Chicago. I've been listening to PokΓ©mon conversations since my kids were little, and it goes in one ear and out the other. But my kids are excited. 1) Reflection: When I was younger, I had to travel a lot for work. I was implementing enterprise software at banks and credit unions. I'd go on-site to the...
